The Local Foods Movement and Wild Game

I havent seen or heard much about the obvious connection between hunting/fishing and the local foods movement. However, yesterday, I saw this article on NPR that ties the local food movement to changes in perception toward hunting wild game....the article includes some yummy-looking recipes (though fancy for those of us who grew up in a hunting family/culture:) Interesting to note that, according to the article, many people in the U.S. approve of hunting, but few people actually hunt. I think there are some interesting social-cultural issues tied to these changing perceptions...

I've been thinking a lot about fishing too. We have a pond full of fish. My son-in-law is a skilled fisherman so I think I will enlist his services when they visit next. I loved the way the Austrians and Germans grilled their wild caught trout(?) I guess it was trout.

Interesting! I've thought a lot about fishing lately, since I'd love to be able to eat more sustainable fish, and it appears that the only way to eat local fish is to catch it yourself. But for me, it represents a big skills-and-knowledge leap -- I've only eaten fish I caught once, and I was with someone very knowledgeable (and in another country!). I have no idea what the laws are or what kind of equipment I'd need (or who to borrow from). I know there are a bunch of guide services around here, and I guess that might be the place to start.
