"Darn, I wish this was a different weekend. But bringing the kids canning isn't a good idea. My husband's been wanting to know what rhubarb taste like, and we always find it mixed with some other flavor."

Building resiliency into your home in the case of temporary or periodic shortages in the delivery of goods or services is something folks often think is a good idea, but don't always get around to doing. With the support of a group, you can take this "to do" off your list, meet some other families in your community and eat scones too. This 2 part workshop will assist you to set up an individualized plan for your household's food staples and then implement…See More

What type of food preserving do you want to do with others?
Canning, Drying, Pickling, Stocking a Year's Supply
What do you hope to achieve by joining IthaCan?
I want to learn more about food preserving, especially canning. Last year I grew and froze enough corn, stringbeans, and squash, so that I still have a little bit in my freezer now. I dried pears and tomatoes with mixed results. this year I want to also can tomatoes, make pickles, and improve my drying results. I'm interested in learning about cellaring too but uncertain if my basement or garage are suitable for it. my 2010 project will be starting an herb garden & learning how to preserve that stuff. I'd like to eventually grow and store as much of my veggie/fruit needs as possible. We planted lots of fruiting trees& bushes this year, so in a few years we'll have lots of fruit to store/preserve.
Do you have any expertise or resources that you can offer to the IthaCan community?
not sure. I'm new to food preserving, other than of course using the freezer.
What is your favorite home-preserved food?
jelly
