Theresa George replied to Sasha K-R's discussion canning homemade baby food in the group Canning
"Hi Sash - freeze it.  Canning it will destroy too much of the food benefits for baby food - and unless it's "preserved" food (which means sugar, salt or vinegar - both not great for a baby), it'll have to be pressure canned…"

canning homemade baby food

my niece is turning 1 year old in october and i know that her parents make her food, but they don't do any canning so it's often a scramble in their work week to get the food made. i was hoping to make some baby food and can it for her birthday so they can have a backstock, but everything i've found online says not to do it, there are no set processing times. does anyone know anything about this? thanks.

Marcia Morrison replied to Sasha K-R's discussion plums leaking in the group Canning
"In my experience some liquid often escapes with the air during canning especially if all the air pockets haven't been purged or the food generates more during processing. The point of course is for air to be expelled so a vacuum is created when…"

plums leaking

i pickled plums and the jars were leaking when i removed them from the canner. i panicked but by the next morning all the jars had sealed and not much liquid was ultimately lost. i looked it up on the usda site and they say that losing liquid is ok as long as you don't end up with half the liquid missing...however, i went on a few forums online where a fer people said that your jars might seal but the liquid that seeped out could cause them to ultimately unseal or grow mold. it has now been a…See More
