February 16, 2013 from 2pm to 4pm
Join IthaCanners as we visit Myer Farm Distillers, a new farm distillery on Route 89 in Ovid.Myer Farm uses organic grain from their own Farm—one of the largest and oldest currently operating organic farms in the Northeast United States—to craft distill a range of spirits. They currently offer tastings of their vodka made from soft white winter wheat, blueberry orange vodka (blueberries from Luce Farm), ginger vodka (ginger from the Good Life Farm), and more.See More

"Hi Jen, thank you so much for the ducks and they are doing fine! They even started following the geese around, like all the ducks end up doing at some point when moving here :)   But now for something totally different: I briefly talked to your…"

Jennifer Maffett replied to Tim Shenk's discussion applesauce making in the group Canning
"Well you don't really need special equipment but there are options ... Simplest: Peel and core apples and put them in a big pot (like a spaghetti pot) and cook slowly until it looks like applesauce. Next up: Use a slow cooker. That's how…"

Elizabeth Delaney replied to Jennifer Maffett's discussion Free Khaki Cambell Ducks in the group Livestock
"Hi Jennifer! We had 2 Khaki mamas go broody this summer too... don't know why their description says "not broody!"  They hatched out 7 and 5 each. Love their personalities, easy care and silly to watch - especially when it…"

Free Khaki Cambell Ducks

We are downsizing our flock and have 3 pairs of ducks plus one drake that are looking for a good home.  Khaki Cambells are good layers often producing an egg a day even in winter. They are only 1.5 years old. One mamma gave us four chicks this spring and another one would have if some other creature hadn't crushed her eggs. So, although they are not supposed to be that broody, these guys seemed to like the idea. Contact me via email (jpmaffett@gmail.com) if you are interested or have questions.

Purslane Pickles

I have a bunch of purslane ready for pickling and I have found recipes but they all call for refrigerating. Does anybody have advice for pickling that allows for no refrigeration? I'm new to pickling so I'm not sure how it all works. Thanks!  See More

Jennifer Maffett replied to Elizabeth Delaney's discussion Mink killing chickens! Anyone else have this? in the group Livestock
