These onions/scallions/chives are growing all over my yard.  Any idea what they are?  Are they wild or escapees from a veggie garden?  They are in a place that would not have been a garden (in the shade of Norway maples), and some grow more than a foot tall. Just curious.

Hi Alison,

I'm curious too - we have some growing under our maples . . . seeds dropped from birds would be my guess, but onion seeds seem unlikely . . .  They are tasty and we still seem fairly healthy after eating them.

I wonder if anyone can give us better information.

Nancy

Alison, that looks like wild garlic to me, allium vineale.

Thanks, Rachel!  Looks like they have pretty distinctive flowers (according to this website), so I'll keep my eye out for that.
