What livestock have you?

I'm curious to know what others have by way of livestock! I love hearing about all the different ways people come into livestock and what they do with theirs. Tell me your livestock story, I want to hear all about it!

Hi Mo! Sounds like quite the menagerie (and I thought we were bad, ha!) What kind of ducks and turkeys do you keep? I'm looking for some more, unrelated Cayuga hens and spreading the word in case anybody has some they can part with or is making their incubation plans now.

Muscovies - and they are very good at making more muscovies. However if you mate them with other breeds, you will get hybrid mules who cannot breed.
Turkeys include Royal Palm ( my avatar is Murphy, a RPT tom), Narragansett, Standard bronze and a mix of all of them.

Ah! I've heard good things about muscovies but have bad associations with them. :) If you run into anyone else with Cayugas (besides me and Sofrube, also on this site, who is my partner) please send them my way!

Are your turkeys breeding? Isn't that the most exciting thing!

Turkeys breed in the spring, and in those few weeks of fall where the light is like spring. They are very good at breeding though not so good at mothering. :)

True true, that is what we found as well. Not soon enough to save the 8 little poults that wandered off. Next time, they all go in the brooder box!
