Event Description

Join us!

From 6 to 9 pm, Wednesday, February 24, 2010, a Home Food Preserving Workshop will be held at the Varna Community Center, 943 Dryden Road (Rte 366). Members of IthaCan will lead hands-on activities in canning, cellaring, pickling, and drying.

The event starts with a slide show on why home food preservation is needed for a sustainable food system. Then you can choose two of the four techniques – drying, canning, cellaring, and pickling – and go to two workshops.

We hope you'll join us for this event! It's a great way to learn new skills and connect --in person-- with people who are interested in preserving food at home.

And... psst! Enjoy a few take-home goodies, such as: jam, dried apples, fruit leather, vacuum-packed wheat, and kim chi or kraut.

A wonderful workshop. Thank you all for doing this. Brigid and I both enjoyed it quite a bit. Looking forward to future events.

so sorry that I overlooked the request for our choices. If there is still room, I'd like to attend canning and pickling.

I would like to RSVP +2 also, and we would like to plan on cellaring and drying and the other person would like to look into pickling! Thank you!

Good question, artcalight. Several people have asked what to bring -- nothing special, perhaps a pen and paper to take notes, and we suggest a $5 donation (sliding scale) to help us cover the cost of renting the space, printing handouts, and maintaining our ad-free website.
Also, if you haven't done so already, please use the "comments" feature on the event to let us know which workshops you're interest in (this will help us plan ahead).
And, parking is available both in front of and behind the Varna Community Center, and we plan on starting on time.
See you soon!

Allison - the folks at Canning Across America asked me to send them the information for this event to put on their website. If you want to follow @Canvolution and @fourchickens (same person) on Twitter, that's who has been retweeting my blog piece about the event and who is my contact to CAA.
