Thanks to everyone who came out! It was fun, although next time I probably *won't* schedule it back to back with the Green Buildings tour. I couldn't figure out who wanted to see what when! :-)

Nice event, Greg. It was good to seen the oil press in action. I'll pass the photos along to Katie and we'll see if we get get them posted.

Also good to see White Hawk. It is something we might be interested in during our later retirement years.

I am sorry Greg, but I got over booked this weekend and have kid events to attend to, I hope you have a great event and I am sorry I have to miss out!

Let me make a clarification about that having actually run the press... it is not an easy stop-and-start activity. If left sitting too long, the press will clog and need to be cleaned to resume. I hope to have enough seeds prepped (cleaned of debris) to run the press continuously for a little while, but my preference would be for fewer, longer demos rather than many short ones. We'll see how things go with the traffic from Green Buildings Open House and play it by ear, I guess.

This is an "on-going" event, meaning you can come at any point and see it. It's not a process, it's very fast. Put seeds in press, press, talk about it a bit and what happens next. Done. :)

Hi Hawks,
Is it OK to come for part of the time span on Sunday?

The oilseed press takes the whole kernels. I am not familiar with
"mammoth" seeds; the conventional (giganteum, Russian, etc) sunflower
seeds work but don't give anywhere near the amount of oil that black
oilseed do.

I can't make the workshop, but was wondering...
1) How do you take the husk off the sunflowers?
2) Can you use Mammoth sunflower seeds for oil?
