Event Description

I have 4 bushels of organic cider apples to press. If you have access to unsprayed/untreated apples bring 'em along or if you would like to purchase some of mine ($15/bu), let me know. We'll be pressing apples next Sunday at 10am.

Be sure to bring cleaned containers with lids.

We can have 10 members at this event.

No inorganic apples please. Thanks!

Thanks for hosting such a great event, Katie! The cider is so good!

Fallen apples are fine for cider, so long as they aren't diseased or slug/yellow jacket/ant infested.

Must the apples be picked from the tree or can we use fallen apples that are in good shape too?

talked to my other half, we only need 1 bushel. see you sunday!

I use half gallon mason jars, but thoroughly cleaned plastic milk jugs or old gallon size wine jugs work well too. I'm going to freeze a couple of gallons (one for T-day, one for Winter Solstice), so will use 2 plastic containers for that. The rest I'll put in mason jars.

What kind of containers are best?

Found a good article from Mother Earth News on making hard cider. Does anyone know where we can find dry wine yeast locally?

PS: Great, Carlyn. Thanks for the help with cider schnacks!

PPS: Terrific, Shirley & Seph, bring on the apples! Cider pressing goes amazingly fast. Containers can be a limiting factor though...

I would like to buy apples from you, too. As many as you can spare. I'll bring food - brunch stuff - some tea breads, and maybe some local thick bacon? Cooked, of course! Ed, Buck and I will be there!

Hi all,
I think I'll bring about 4 bushels of apples. All apples are unsprayed and some are certified organic-3 varieties!

Thanks for hosting, Katie! I'll buy apples from you -- as many or as few as you're willing to part with!
